One of the fiercest storms ever is going to hit an Antarctica camp and the men must evacuate immediately on the plane and they have plans to come right back for the Husky Sled Dogs.No room for them now and they are left behind.
The opening scene tries to trick you into thinking that 8-Below has to do with temperature as we see two guys in a Sauna at 109 degrees and then running outside(don't ask why) where it is below freezing.But,we saw the DVD jacket.We know somehow dogs are involved.It's not about temperature.Can't fool us.
I nominate all the dogs for an Oscar for Best Actor as they were truly outstanding.The human actors were okay and did the expected to move the story along.But,most of the film minutes were on the dogs and this is a movie worth watching over and over again just because of them.It is the interplay among the dogs that will capture your heart.You won't believe how human they behave.They were so good I almost expected them to talk.Wait a minute….you know,by God,maybe they did.
This is not to say the love and communication between the dogs and their handler Jerry (Walker) went unnoticed.No,and there were some very touching moments here as well.Oh,keep a box of Kleenex nearby.
The photography is breathtaking in many respects and I suppose there were some computer graphics involved with some scenes that could only be done that way.Outstanding.Great job.
I read in the papers that this was inspired by a Japanese true story:South Pole Story circa 1957.
Yes,I would say this was great family fun except for the smallest children as some dog scenes might frighten them.
