从地图上看，冲之鸟礁相对独立，根据其所圈定的专属经济区约四十万平方公里，如果450万包括冲之鸟礁，日本无争议的专属经济区必然不到410万，而不可能是约448万这个数字。

中国主张12海里领海权，即领海的宽度从领海基线量起为十二海里，12海里外就不是中国领海。
大家常说的300多万是指专属经济区和大陆架的面积。
专属经济区，为领海以外并邻接领海的区域，从测算领海宽度的基线量起延至二百海里。
